People always ask if my kids are artistic. They are, but in different ways. This one is a singer, and he's also in school studying astronomy.
When my dad, who is 90 years old now, was this young man's age, he was apprenticing under a house painter, learning the meticulous craft of painting walls. When I was his age, Pops was teaching me to paint walls. Now I'm teaching him to paint walls. Some of the practices have changed and the tools are better, but teaching craftsmanship is the same as ever.
Passing down the trades is a fabulous thing!

I'm moving into Unc status in the photography business now. Mostly training, consulting, lecturing, etc. I realize there's a lot of you following me now who are newer to the photography business. Let me give you a piece of free and gentle advice as we move into school dance season:
you have to get permission from these kids' parents before putting photos of them on the internet for your photography studios' asvertisment. If they are underage, get a model release in writing or at least say something to their grownups. There are many reasons parents wouldn't want their kids photos out there beyond their control. Especially with the rise of AI and nefarious things being done with your images you will never know about. Protecting these kids/teenagers is all of our responsibility as a community. No matter what the legality is, be conscientious. Take your duty to your young clients and their people seriously.
