I've always wanted to own and restore a historical building in my hometown, Gainesville Ga. It's been a long time goal. A way to give back to the community that raised me and realize the full Celestial Studiosal Studios
After 30 years of saving and goal setting and, as some of you know, heavy setbacks, the savings came and went and came and went. I finally realized my dream, and though it's not the historical building I thought it would be, it's been standing since 1966, before I was born, which counts as historic now. It was built before Lakeshore Mall, and it oversaw the building of the mall, the addition, the renovation, and 1358 Plaza Drive will now oversee the destruction of the mall and rebuilding of something new.
My first first foray into commercial property has been wrought with hard lessons and drama. All of my saving could not have prepared me for the decades of neglect and slipshod repairs this building has endured. The work and expense just to get it to adequate has put this project behind for eight months.
.... and then there were bees.
It's like a cruel joke that the week we were supposed to start demolition of the inside we also found out there is a colony of honey bees happily living inside the walls. The expense of tearing down walls and relocating a colony of bees is staggering.... and here we are. I work at Uhuburg, Eagle Owl Castle in Helen. We have great honey bees that produced 5 lbs of honey that we harvested this week. If you’ve got someone to collect the hive and queen, we have more bee houses. They’re by our greenhouse and farm, so plenty of plants for them. If interested, let me know. I’ll check with the owners!!
